Valve Finally Gets Players! Steam Deck Major Update: No More Guessing When Controllers Die, Quick Chat Frees Your Hands

Valve recently pushed a system update for Steam Deck, bringing a number of user-friendly practical optimizations to the handheld, while also laying the groundwork for compatibility with Valve's other hardware devices.

Previously, typing replies to messages on Steam Deck was very troublesome, and even with the touchpad, the input experience remained poor. This update adds a new quick preset message feature, allowing players to quickly send preset short phrases by pressing a button and moving the joystick. The system provides a total of eight quick chat phrases, corresponding to the eight directions of the joystick. The default phrases include a variety of fun short sentences, and users can also go into system settings to freely modify all quick phrases.

This update also introduces a feature called "Remote Download Management." With this new tool, players can manage download tasks across different Steam devices. Whether controlling the handheld from a PC or controlling the PC from the handheld, you can remotely pause game downloads or adjust the download queue order.

This update also optimizes the experience with Steam Controllers and third-party game controllers. A new controller battery icon has been added to the top status bar of Steam Deck, and when the controller battery is low, the system automatically pops up a reminder notification.

In addition, there are several lightweight detail optimizations: the store shortcut can jump directly to the homepage; the controller input settings interface has been refreshed with a cleaner and more concise layout; and the login page allows one-click switching to desktop mode.
